7.2 “FLAG” AND “STOP” BUTTONS IN SCRATCH
Aryan: Please tell me one more thing. What is the meaning of these symbols
given on stage?
Gowri: Yes surely!! These are symbols of Flag and Stop.
1. Flag: - This button is used to run the script, which is written under “when flag clicked”
block of “Events” block. This is known as “Hat” block as it can join more blocks in
downward side only and also it has “hat” shape from top side and will be a top block in
every script. It Looks like this:
2. Stop: - This button is used to stop the script, which is written under the block “when
flag clicked”.
Aryan: Could you give me an example by using this block “when flag clicked” and also using any
other block except “Motion” block.
Gowri: Yes, dear Aryan! now we will learn about “Looks” block. Do you want to
see the sprites dancing on stage?
Aryan: Wow! That sounds so interesting. This Scratch is very
much wonderful. I am very interested to learn this.
Gowri: Let’s learn that with this next topic and activity.
7.3 CHANGING THE COSTUME OF THE SPRITE—LOOKS BLOCK
7.3.1 “Switch costumes to” block
This is also a “stack” block and used to change the costume of the sprite. This has a
dropdown menu; you can choose any costume-name from dropdown list.
7.3.2 “next costume” block
This is also a “stack” block and used to change the costume of the sprite. It
automatically chooses next costume of the sprite from the list of costumes already
given for that sprite.
Let’s learn it with an activity now.
Activity 7.1
Add a dancing sprite and it will dance (means changes its costumes) when we
click on Flag.
