8.2 ANALOG
Analog Computers are those computers in which data is
represented in the form of continuously varying physical
quantities such as pressure, temperature, voltage, current etc.
Analog computers measure things.
Uses of Analog computers: Speedometer of a car, Thermometer
etc.

8.3 DIGITAL
Digital Computers are those computers that work on
discrete data (numeric data). Digital computers count
things.
Uses of Digital computers are: home, educational

institutions, office, scientific fields, business etc.
Types of Digital computers according to size and performance
8.3.1 Supercomputers
These computers are designed to be used for doing
extremely complicated computations in the minimum
possible time.
They are best used in Weather forecasting, Nuclear Science,
Aerodynamic modeling etc. These are of very big size. Fig. 8.4
8.3.2 Mainframe Computers
These are designed to handle large volumes of data and size
is smaller than supercomputer.

8.3.3 Minicomputers
Minicomputers are used for scientific and engineering
computations, business-transaction processing etc.
8.3.4 Microcomputers Fig. 8.6
These are designed to be used by single users for performing basic operations like
educational activities, playing games. These are mainly used in homes, offices, shops,
school etc.
