Plagiarism
Plagiarism happens when you copy someone else’s words, ideas, or work and pretend they are your
own, without saying where you got them from. This is unethical because you are not giving proper
credit to the original author.
Why is it wrong?
Plagiarism is unfair to the person who did the original work, and it stops you from learning how to
express your own ideas. Schools and many places have strict rules against plagiarism.
How to avoid plagiarism?
Some ways to avoid plagiarism are as follows:
Always try to write in your own words.
If you use information from a book, website, or another person, mention where you found it. This is
called giving credit or citing the source.
Use quotation marks if you copy exact sentences and say who said it.
Piracy
Piracy means illegally copying, downloading, or sharing
things like software, music, movies, or games without the
permission of the owner. This is like stealing because the
creators do not get paid for their work.
Why is piracy a problem?
The reasons are as follows:
It breaks the law and can lead to penalties or fines.
It hurts the people who create these works because they
lose money and may not be able to continue making
new things.
It can also be unsafe, as pirated software or files often contain viruses or harmful programs.
