Input Devices
The devices that are used to enter data into the computer and give orders are called input devices. Let
us study some of the commonly used input devices.
Keyboard
A keyboard is used to give input to the computer by typing numbers, letters
and special characters.

Mouse
A mouse sends instructions to the computer with the click of a button. It is also called a
pointing device.
Mouse
Scanner
A scanner is used to read paper documents, images or pictures and send them
as input into the computer.
Microphone Scanner
A microphone is an input device. It is used to record voice, music and sounds that can be
stored in a computer.

Digital Camera
A digital camera captures the image or picture momentarily and converts the image
directly into digital form and stores it in memory. It can then be viewed on the computer
or compatible devices. Digital Camera
Sensor Device
A sensor is a type of device that detects physical stimuli from the environment and
converts it into a signal that can be interpreted by a computer or system. These
devices are used to collect data from the outside world, such as temperature, motion,
Sensor Device light, or pressure, and are typically used in automation, robotics, and various sensing
applications.
Output Devices
The result we get after processing is called Output. The devices which help us to get these results or
outputs are called output devices. Let us study about some of the commonly used output devices.
Monitor
A monitor looks like a television. It is also known as a Visual Display
Unit or VDU. The monitor shows the data that you input and its
result (output) after the computer processes it.
Monitors come in various types. The main types include CRT
(Cathode Ray Tube), LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), LED (Light Emitting
Diode), and OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode). Monitors
