Methods to Break Down Problems

Different ways to break down problems are as follows:

Top-down steps: Write down the big goal first, and then break it down by asking, “What comes right
           before this?”

Chunking: Group similar tasks together. For homework, put all gathered information jobs in one
chunk and all write answers jobs in another.
Flowchart: Draw boxes for actions and arrows for the order. Useful for games, recipes, or science
           plans.

Mind map: Put the problem in the center of a page; draw lines for causes, effects, and ideas.

5Ws + How: Ask Who? What? When? Where? Why? and How? to uncover all the hidden parts.

Divide and conquer: Split the job into equal parts, complete each part, then combine them. Great
for big lists or big clean ups.
        Importance of Problem Deconstruction

The importance of problem deconstruction are as follows:
Clearer thinking: Little pieces show the exact trouble spots instead of just feeling that everything is
           wrong.

Saves effort: Do the easy parts first, tackle the hard parts later, and skip wasting time.

Team-friendly: Each person can take one piece, so group work runs smoothly.
Safer: Finding tiny issues early stops them growing into big, costly mistakes.

Motivating: Crossing off each small task lets you see real progress and keeps you keen to finish.
