Let us understand the concept of business plan with the help of example.
Suppose you're starting a homemade soap business called “Nature’s Touch”.
Business Idea: Sell organic, chemical-free soaps made from natural ingredients.
Vision: To promote eco-friendly personal care products.
Mission: Provide healthy skincare solutions without harming the environment.
Target Customers: People with sensitive skin, eco-conscious consumers, boutique hotels.
The business plan would include details like:
Where to source ingredients?
How to price the soaps?
Marketing through Instagram and craft fairs.
How much funding is needed to buy equipment?
Key Components of a Business Plan
The key components of a business plan are as follows:
Executive Summary
A short overview of the entire business plan. It gives a snapshot of your business and is often written
last, even though it appears first. It helps readers quickly understand the key points of your plan. It’s the
first thing investors and partners will read, so it needs to be strong.
The Executive Summary includes the following key elements:
Business name and location: The official name of your business and where it is based.
Mission and vision: A statement of your business’s purpose and long-term goals.
Products or services: A brief description of what your business offers.
Business goals: The main objectives you aim to achieve.
Brief summary of finances: An overview of expected revenues, expenses, and profitability.
Company Description
It shows the details about your company’s identity, purpose, and what makes it unique. It explains who
you are, what you do, and why your business is valuable.
The company description also includes the following:
Legal structure: The type of ownership your business has, such as sole proprietorship, partnership,
or corporation.
History or inspiration: Background information on how the business started or the motivation
behind it.
Business model: How your business operates and generates revenue.
Unique Selling Proposition (USP): What sets your product or service apart from competitors.
