Hub or Switch
Hub or Switch is a hardware device that has various ports to which the
computers, printers and other networking devices are connected. The main
Hub or Switch function of a hub is to direct information around the network and facilitate
communication between all the connected devices.
Router
Router is a networking device used to connect and facilitate transfer of
data in the form of packets between two networks. It finds the best route
for transmitting data packets over the network. It is located at the gateways
where two networks connect.
Router
Modem
It stands for MODULATOR–DEMODULATOR. It is a hardware device that allows a computer
to send and receive data over a telephone line. It converts data from digital to analog
and vice versa. A modem converts digital data from the computer into analog signals for
transmission (modulation) and converts incoming analog signals back into digital data for
Modem the computer to process (demodulation).
Networking Cable
Networking cable, also known as an Ethernet cable, is a transmission medium
that allows to transport information from one computer to another. There are
various types of networking cables such as coaxial cable, twisted pair cable and
optical fiber cable. Ethernet cable
Gateway
Gateway is a network device that allows the data to flow between two
different networks which may use different protocols. It collects data that
Gateway is to be sent from one computer, converts it into small packets and then
sends them to another computer.
TYPES OF COMPUTER NETWORKS
Networks can be classified based on the geographical area they cover. Let's learn about them.

Local Area Network (LAN)
LAN is a short form of Local Area Network. It is a digital
communication system that interconnects a large number Server
of computers and other peripheral devices within a limited
geographical area. This type of network is usually preferred
for a smaller area such as a residence, school, laboratory,
university campus or office building. By using the LAN, users
can exchange data and messages in the easy and fast way.
Cables and communication devices are used to connect
computers to the LAN.
