Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a technology that allows users to create a secure connection over a
less secure network, such as the Internet. It works by encrypting the user's data and routing it through
a private server, hiding the user's real IP address. This makes it appear as though the user is browsing
from a different location, ensuring privacy and security.
VPNs are commonly used to protect sensitive data, especially when accessing public networks, such as
Wi-Fi in coffee shops or airports. They are also used to bypass geographic restrictions, allowing users
to access content that might be blocked in their region.

Identify the following terms:
1. A hardware component that allows a computer to connect to a
network either wired or wirelessly.
2. A network device that directs data packets between different
networks by finding the best path.
3. A network technology that connects two or more LANs usually within
a city or town.
4. A secure private connection created over a public network like the
Internet to protect data and privacy.
TRANSMISSION MEDIA
Various components are interconnected with each other through some medium in a computer
network. The medium that enables you to transfer data from one computer to another is known as
a transmission medium. The cables that connect two or more workstations are the communication
channels. Computers in a small network can be connected by cables (mostly copper conductors in
twisted pairs or coaxial cables). Nowadays, optical fiber cables are also used for networking due to their
higher speed and capacity.
We can group communication media into two categories: Guided transmission media and unguided
transmission media. The guided media includes cables and unguided media includes waves.
