Different Ways to Enter A Formula

There are mainly two ways to enter a formula in a worksheet:

Typing the Formula Directly in the Cell: In this way, the
formula is directly typed in the cell after typing an equal
                   sign as follows:
After entering the formula in the cell, press the Enter key. When the Enter key is pressed, result of
the formula appears in the cell.

Typing the Formula in the Formula Bar: In this way, we
can type the formula in Formula bar after selecting the cell.
After entering the formula, when we press the Enter key
from the keyboard. The result will appear in the particular
                   cell.

Excel follows BEDMAS rule for doing mathematical calculations, where B stands for Brackets, E for
Exponentiation, D for Division, M for Multiplication, A for Addition and S for Subtraction.

Calculate the formulas given below based on BEDMAS and write the result.

                 1.  =(8 + 5) – (2 + 3) ^ 2   2.  =(9/3) * (4 ^ 2) – 5
The elements of a formula are:

References: A cell or a range of cells that you want to use in your calculation.
                    Operators: Symbols (+, -, *, /, ^, $, %, etc.) that specify the calculations to be performed.

Constants: Numbers or text values that do not change.
                                                                                                         Hintbot
                 Copying a Formula
                                                                                              To calculate the sum of
There are two methods to copy a formula:
                                                                                              adjacent cells: press the
Using the Fill Handle Alt and = keys together
Step 1: Select the cell that contains the formula, then position the after selecting the cells.
mouse pointer over the lower-right corner of the cell until
the black cross (+) or Fill Handle appears.

Step 2: Drag the fill handle over the cell or cells to which you want to copy the formula, then release
                         the mouse button.
                 Using Copy and Paste

Step 1: Select the cell that contains the formula, and click on the Copy command.

Step 2: Select the cell or cells that you want to copy it to.
                         a. To copy the formula and any formatting done in that cell, click on the Paste command.

                         b. To copy the formula only, on the Home tab, click on drop-down arrow of Paste command
and select Paste Special, and then select Formulas and click on OK button.
