Robots come in many shapes and sizes to carry out tasks in almost all sectors of life. Let
us now discuss the types of robots which are divided into five categories.

CLASSIFICATION OF ROBOTS

Robots are mainly classified into five categories. Let's learn about them.

PRE-PROGRAMMED ROBOTS

Pre-programmed robots are designed to work in a controlled environment. They are
used in:

1. repetitive tasks that are considered boring because of their repetitive nature or too
dangerous to be done by humans.
2. situations where the task requires a high level of accuracy.

3. large-scale industries and also in the field of medicine.

Examples of pre-programmed robots are:

Mechanical arms are used for welding doors or fixing engine
parts.

CyberKnife radio surgery machine is designed to operate on

tumors in cancer patients.

AUTONOMOUS ROBOTS

Autonomous robots are designed to work independently without human intervention.
They carry out tasks in an open environment and use sensors to adapt to their

surroundings. They can perform in the changing environment and do not require direct
human supervision.
