Pascaline Calculator

Pascaline calculator is the first mechanical calculator in the world. It was devised by a
French mathematician. It used gears, dials and a series of rotating numbered wheels.
Pascaline calculator was capable of performing only addition and subtraction.

The first Pascaline calculator could perform calculations
up to 5-digit numbers and the advanced series models
were able to perform calculations up to 8-digit numbers.

                                              Difference Engine
In 1822, Charles Babbage, a mathematician, invented the

Difference Engine. It was the first automatic calculator and was
capable of performing mathematical calculations automatically.

                 AnalytiCal Engine

In 1837, Charles Babbage devised another calculator called
Analytical Engine. It is the first-ever working model of a
mechanical computer and a fully program controlled machine.

This is why Charles Babbage is known as the 'father of computers'.

                 GENERATION OF COMPUTERS

After these early calculating machines, the present computer took its shape in five

                 generations. Let's learn about them.

                                                        FIRST GENERATION

                     Timeline: 1940s
                     Technology: Vacuum tubes
                     Example of Computer: ENIAC, EDVAC,
                     UNIVAC – I, MARK I
                     Features:

                        Very expensive
Quite large and generated a lot of heat
                        Very low speed
