BRAINSTORMING

The strategy to generate ideas is called brainstorming. It involves a group of people who
sit together to discuss a topic and come up with ideas. Let us understand with an example
‘Computer’. Every student in the group comes up with their ideas which are written down

                  in one place as shown:

                                                                                  Software
                                                                Hospitals

During this discussion, we experience a storm of ideas originating from various brains.

                  PROCESS OF BRAINSTORMING SESSION

The following steps are involved in the process of the brainstorming session:

                  Step 1 Defining the Problem
Step 2 Selecting the Time, Place and Process

                  Step 3 Introducing the Facilitator
                  Step 4 Assessing Ideas

                  Step 5 Presenting Results

The conclusion can be derived in the form of a write-up or a mind-map and then presented
to the supervisor who needs to make a decision.

                            MIND MAPS

A Mind Map is a tool that allows us to organise ideas, thoughts or concepts and their
                  relationship in a graphical manner.

After the brainstorming session is over, we structure the ideas and information, and their
relationship using Mind Maps. In this technique, we pick up the ideas that have common

features. These ideas are then grouped under one category and the different categories
are linked to the main topic using lines or arrows.
