Flash Drive
The Flash Drive is a small portable data storage device integrated with a Universal
Serial Bus (USB) connector.
Pen Drive
A Pen Drive acts as a portable hard drive and is easy to use as it is
small and can be carried in a pocket and plugged into any computer
with a USB port. A pen drive has a storage capacity of up to 1 TB.
The USB flash drive is based on flash memory, which was created in the
early 1980s by Fujio Masuoka.
Memory Card
A Memory Card is commonly known as a multimedia memory
card. It is very small in size, usually 1–1.5 inches. These are
used in mobile phones and digital cameras. You need to have a
card reader to read the stored data on the memory card.
Measuring the Computer’s Memory
The basic unit for measuring the memory of a computer is the byte. A byte consists
of a group of eight bits, for example, 10001011, that is, 1 byte equals 8 bits. A group
of 4 bits is known as a nibble (half a byte), for example, 1001, that is, 1 nibble equals
4 bits. Other units for measuring the computer’s memory are Kilobyte, Megabyte,
Gigabyte, Terabyte, and so on.
8 bits 1 Byte 1024 Bytes 1 Kilobyte (KB)
1024 Megabytes 1 Gigabyte (GB) 1024 Kilobytes 1 Megabyte (MB)
1024 Gigabytes 1 Terabyte (TB) 1024 Terabytes 1 Petabyte (PB)
1024 Exabytes 1 Zettabyte (ZB) 1024 Petabytes 1 Exabyte (EB)
1024 Zettabytes 1 Yottabyte (YB) 1024 Yottabytes 1 Brontobyte
