Network Interface Card (NIC)

NIC is an expansion card that enables a computer to access a network. It allows the
computer to connect to a network via wired or wireless means.

                                     Hub or Switch NIC

Hub or Switch is a hardware device that has various ports to which the computers,
printers, and other networking devices are connected. The main function of a hub
is to direct information around the network and facilitate communication between
Hub or Switch all the connected devices.
                 Router

The Router is a networking device used to connect and facilitate transfer of data in
the form of packets between two networks. It finds the best route for transmitting
data packets over the network. It is located at the gateways where two networks
                 connect.
                                                                                                           Router
                              Modem

It stands for MODULATOR–DEMODULATOR. It is a hardware device that allows a computer
to send and receive data over a telephone line. It converts data from digital to analog and
vice versa. The process of converting digital signals to analog signals is called modulation.
The process of converting analog signals to digital signals is called demodulation.

                 Networking Cable

Networking cable, also known as Ethernet cable, is a transmission medium that
allows to transport information from one computer to another. There are various
types of networking cables, such as coaxial cable, twisted pair cable, and optical
                 fiber cable. Ethernet cable

                                        Gateway

Gateway is a network device that allows the data to flow between two different
networks, which may use different protocols. It collects data that is to be sent
from one computer, then sends it to another computer. It acts as a gatekeeper,
performing functions like spam filtering, virus scanning, etc. of the data entering
                        Gateway
                                        a network.

                 TYPES OF NETWORKS

Different types of networks can be classified on the basis of the geographical area they cover.
There are five types of networks. Let's learn about them.

                                                                                           Computer Networking 101
