Medical Image Analysis
Medical Image Analysis is one of the most impactful
applications of Computer Vision (CV) in the
healthcare sector. It leverages CV technologies to
process, analyse and interpret medical images such
as X-rays, MRI scans and CT scans. The primary
goal is to assist healthcare professionals in diagnosing
medical conditions such as tumors, fractures,
infections and other abnormalities. By automating
the analysis of these complex images, CV helps improve diagnostic accuracy, speed up the
process and reduce human error, ultimately leading to better patient care.
Reading Text from Images (OCR-Optical Character Recognition)
The Optical Character Recognition uses CV to read printed or
handwritten text from images or scanned documents. It is useful
in digitising books, receipts and IDs. The Google Translate app
has a very handy feature that helps you read signs or text in a
foreign language. Instead of manually typing words or phrases
to translate, you can simply point your phone’s camera at the
text and the app will instantly show you the translation in your
preferred language. The app uses a technology called Optical
Character Recognition (OCR), which allows it to "see" the text
in the image. OCR scans the letters and words in the picture, recognising them just like a human
would read them.
Smart Shopping Assistants
Smart Shopping Assistants are changing the way we
shop by using Computer Vision (CV) technology to
make shopping easier and faster. Retailers use CV to
help with many tasks, like identifying products on
shelves, keeping track of stock and letting customers
check out without needing a cashier. This technology is
improving both how customers shop and how stores
manage their products, making the shopping experience
quicker, more convenient and more personal.
Gaming (Augmented Reality)
Through the player’s camera, games like Pokémon Go
utilise computer vision to allow virtual objects to appear
and move in the real world.
