SMART SCHOOL SAFETY SYSTEM
Design a Smart School Safety System that uses
sensors, Arduino and virtual robotics to enhance
safety in the school environment. The system
should detect motion, measure distance and
CAPSTONE PROJECT simulate automated responses like sounding
alarms or alerting through lights.
Session 1: Exploring and Building Circuits in Tinkercad
Activities:
1. Sensor Selection and Overview
Task: Research and select two sensors (from PIR, ultrasonic, photoresistor or temperature
sensors) suitable for a school safety setup.
Skills Practised:
Identifying sensors and their functions.
Understanding detection, conversion and processing stages of sensors.
2. Build a Motion Detection Circuit
Task: In Tinkercad, connect a PIR Sensor to an LED circuit. The LED should turn on when motion
is detected.
Skills Practised:
Building circuits using breadboard and resistors.
Connecting Power, Signal and Ground pins correctly.
Testing simulations in Tinkercad.
3. Add a Distance Alert Using Ultrasonic Sensor
Task: Create a second circuit using an Ultrasonic Distance Sensor and a Piezo Buzzer that
sounds when an object comes within 30 cm.
Skills Practised:
Setting up the trigger and echo pins of the ultrasonic sensor.
Using conditional logic in Arduino block coding.
Outcome for session 1:
Working simulation that lights an LED when movement is detected near the PIR sensor.
A distance-based alert simulation to show proximity detection.
