young innovators
T Ravi Kiran
T Ravi Kiran, originally from Telangana, has
established himself as a rising figure in assistive
technology. At a young age he founded and leads a
venture called Alien Innovations Pvt Ltd, where he
has channelled his interest in robotics and AI toward
real world accessibility solutions. One of his standout
creations is a device named “BlindEye”, a wearable
tool designed for visually impaired individuals. This
innovation employs sensors, cameras and audio
feedback to detect obstacles, recognise objects, read
text aloud and perform other assistive functions.
Ravi’s work earned him global recognition: he was
among the winners of the 2023 imaGen Ventures Global Youth Challenge powered by UNICEF
and has received support for scaling his invention. Ravi’s journey is marked by early exposure
to tinkering and robotics, which he combined with empathy for people’s needs. He has gathered
insights directly from persons with visual impairment to shape features of BlindEye. His work
illustrates how youthful curiosity, paired with a social impact mindset, can lead to meaningful
technological solutions.
Hemesh Chadalavada
Hemesh Chadalavada, based in Hyderabad, is
another exceptional young innovator. He turned
personal experience into invention when, at the
age of 12 or so, he saw his grandmother’s struggles
with Alzheimer’s and dementia: for instance, she
left the gas on while preparing tea. Motivated by
this, he developed a wearable device called the
AlphaMonitor. This is designed to assist elderly
people with dementia by tracking gait, posture,
body temperature and pulse and by triggering alerts
when falls occur or wandering happens. Hemesh
has received several awards for his innovation:
the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Shakti Puraskar (for young achievers under 18) and others via
large scale innovation challenges. His invention is close to commercialisation and his ambition is to
continue his education abroad in robotics, while making a positive impact back home.
