FAVOURITE ICE CREAM FLAVOURS

Ms. Sharma, a teacher in class 3, wanted to introduce her students to the
concept of surveys and data collection. She decided to ask them about their
favourite ice cream flavours and then use tally marks to count the responses. The
students gave different answers, such as chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and mango. After

collecting the answers, Ms. Sharma taught the students how to count the results using
tally marks. For each flavour, she drew vertical lines for each response and when five
answers were given, she drew a diagonal line to create a bundle. Using tally marks, the
results looked like this:

strawberry and vanilla. This table helps Ms. Sharma easily count and compare the results
using tally marks.
