Understanding Decomposition Breaking Big Problems into Small Parts
Solving Problems Step-by-Step Examples of Decomposition in Daily Life
Group Activities on Problem Solving Benefits of Decomposition
In everyday life, we often come across tasks that appear large, complex or difficult
to complete. These tasks may involve many steps, require careful planning or take
time to finish. When we try to handle such tasks all at once, we may feel confused
or overwhelmed.
To make these tasks easier, we use a method called decomposition.
UNDERSTANDING DECOMPOSITION
Decomposition is the process of breaking down a large problem or
task into smaller, simpler and manageable parts. Each smaller part
can be understood and completed more easily. This helps in solving
the entire problem in an organised and step-by-step manner.
Let us understand the concept with the following example.
A student is asked to prepare a chart on “Healthy Food.”
At first, the task may seem difficult. However, if the
student divides the task into smaller steps such as: fact bits
Decomposition is one
Thinking of food items of the four foundational
Drawing pictures pillars of computational
thinking (alongside pattern
Writing names
recognition, abstraction
Colouring the chart and algorithmic design).
Now, the work becomes easier and more organised.
