DATA COLLECTION BY MACHINES
Machines collect data without any help from humans. They do this all day and night,
without stopping. Three important ways machines gather data are through sensors,
cameras and the things people do online, such as clicking links and typing searches.
Sensors at Work
Machines use sensors to gather important
information from the world around them.
A sensor detects things like temperature,
light, sound or movement and turns
them into data. These sensors work
continuously, collecting and processing
information all day and night.
For example, in schools, smart systems
use temperature and light sensors to
automatically switch off fans and lights
when a classroom is empty.
