DIGITAL IDENTITY
Your digital identity is how you are represented online, created by the things you
share, your profile details and your online activity. In today’s digital world, managing
your online identity is very important. Everything you do on the internet contributes
to how others see you and even how you see yourself.
Here’s what you need to know about digital identity:
Privacy is important: You have the right to control what parts of your life are
shared online. Privacy is a vital aspect of digital identity, so consider the following
before posting:
Personal information: Avoid sharing personal details such as your full name,
address, phone number or school. These can be misused if they fall into the
wrong hands.
Posts and comments: Think carefully about your words and actions online.
Once something is posted, it can be difficult to remove it from the internet,
even if you delete it later.
Be mindful of who you share with: Not everyone you meet online has good
intentions. Just because someone asks for your information doesn’t mean you
should share it. Always be cautious:
Know the person: Only share personal information with people you trust.
If someone online asks for your address or other personal details, consider
whether they could misuse that information.
Check the website: Before entering your personal details on a website, ensure
it’s safe and trustworthy. Look for signs like https before the website’s URL
and a padlock symbol, which indicates it’s secure.
