Here are a few things to remember:
Be polite: Always use polite words when chatting online. Simple things like please
and thank you can go a long way in making conversations more pleasant.
Listen carefully: Pay attention to what others are saying. Listening is just as
important as talking, especially in online conversations, where it’s easy to get
distracted or jump to conclusions.
Avoid hurtful words: Sometimes it’s easy to say things online that we wouldn’t
say face-to-face. Always remember that words can hurt, even if they’re typed on
a screen. Take a moment to think before sending any message.
Respect differing opinions: It’s natural for people to have different viewpoints,
especially online. Be open to others’ opinions and engage in respectful dialogue,
even when you disagree. This helps build understanding and avoid unnecessary
conflict.
Use appropriate language: Keep the tone of your messages friendly and
respectful. Avoid using offensive language or making inappropriate jokes that
could upset others.
Be mindful of your tone: Without facial expressions or body language, tone can
be misinterpreted in text. To ensure your message is understood as you intend,
use punctuation, emojis or clear wording to convey warmth and friendliness.
Apologise when needed: If you realise you’ve said something hurtful or
insensitive, take responsibility and apologise. A sincere apology can go a long
way in repairing relationships and maintaining respect.
Encourage positive behaviour: Support others by celebrating their achievements
and encouraging positive interactions. Complimenting someone’s work or efforts
can create a more uplifting online environment.
AVOIDING MISINFORMATION
Misinformation is when incorrect or
false information is spread, whether
on purpose or by mistake. It’s
important to be careful about what
you read and share online.
