UNDERSTANDING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the ability of a computer program or machine to think, learn
and perform tasks that usually require human intelligence. In simple terms, machines that imitate
human behaviour are considered to be artificially intelligent. AI can be defined as a system capable
of performing tasks such as learning, planning and problem-solving, which are typically carried
out by humans or intelligent animals. For instance, AI can:
Suggest videos, products or music based on your previous choices.
Clean a room using sensors and decision-making algorithms.
Control and charge electric cars with automated systems.
Play games like chess by calculating possible moves and improving strategies over time.
Computing and Intelligence are two key concepts that help us understand Artificial Intelligence.
Computing refers to using computers to perform mathematical, logical or relational calculations.
Intelligence, on the other hand, involves learning, reasoning, decision-making and adapting to
new situations. When these two concepts are combined, they form AI, which enables machines to
replicate human intelligence and assist in decision-making.
HISTORY OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
The idea of intelligent machines has been around for thousands of years. The history of Artificial
Intelligence (AI) is a journey of innovation, challenges and breakthroughs that began long before
computers were even conceived.
Let's take a journey through history to explore how AI started and evolved.
