When data is organised, it becomes information that can be analysed to help make decisions or
understand patterns.
Importance of Data in Daily Lives
Data plays a crucial role in our everyday lives, even though we may not always notice it. It helps
us make decisions, improve our routines and understand the world around us. Here's how data is
important in daily life:
Helps in decision making: Data helps us make decisions based
on facts and information rather than assumptions.
For example, when you check the weather data on your phone,
it helps you decide whether to bring an umbrella or wear a
warm coat. Similarly, by looking at traffic data, you can choose
the fastest route to avoid being late, saving time and reducing stress. Using data ensures that
the choices we make are based on accurate information, helping us plan more effectively and
avoid unnecessary surprises.
Improves health and fitness: Fitness trackers, like a smartwatch,
collect data on how many steps you walk, your heart rate and how
many calories you burn.
For example, if you see that you walked only 2,000 steps today, you
might decide to take a walk in the evening to reach your goal of
10,000 steps. This data helps you stay healthy by keeping track of
your physical activity and encouraging you to be more active.
Enhances learning: At school, data is used to track your
progress and help you improve.
For example, if you take a quiz in math and get 8 out of 10
correct, the data from your results shows your teacher what
topics you understand well and where you need help. Teachers
use this data to give you feedback and create lessons that fit your needs.
