IDENTIFYING PATTERNS
Identifying patterns involves analysing data or events to detect sequences, similarities or
behaviours that follow a specific rule or trend. This is important in many areas, from daily life to
advanced fields like Data Science. By recognising patterns, you can predict what might happen
next, such as how the weather changes or how someone might react to a situation. In Data
Science, patterns help create predictive models to forecast future events, like the stock market or
weather forecasts.
Identifying patterns also makes organising information easier. It helps group similar items
together, making it simpler to understand large amounts of data. Understanding patterns helps
with decision-making too. When you know the trend behind something, you can make better
choices, whether it’s in investing, solving a problem or handling relationships.
For example, think about how you organise your school bag. You start noticing that when you
pack your bag the night before school, you feel more prepared and never forget anything. But
on mornings when you rush to pack your bag, you often forget your homework or lunch. By
recognising this pattern, you realise that packing your bag the night before makes your mornings
much smoother. So, instead of rushing in the morning, you decide to pack your bag the night
before, knowing it will help you start your day on the right foot.

CONSISTENT READING FOR IMPROVED VOCABULARY
Ravi, a high school student, realised that his vocabulary improved significantly when
he made reading a part of his daily routine. Initially, he read books only when assigned
for school, but over time, he started reading a chapter of a novel every day for 30 minutes.
After a few months, he noticed that his vocabulary was expanding and his essays were becoming
more creative and precise. The regular practice helped him retain new words and his comprehension
improved noticeably. Before adopting this habit, Ravi would often struggle with finding the right words
in his writing and rely on simple vocabulary. However, after observing that his regular reading led to
better word usage and fluency, he became consistent with it. Now, he no longer doubts the importance
of reading daily, he knows it’s a proven method that works.
Based on the above case, answer the following questions:
1. What did Ravi notice after reading daily for a few months?
2. How much time did Ravi dedicate to reading each day?
