SAKSHI'S DIGITAL DILEMMA
Sakshi is a bright and hardworking student in Grade 6. She has big dreams of earning a
scholarship to a well-known university. She does really well in her studies, is involved in her
school’s student council and loves to stand up for good causes. Sakshi also enjoys being active
on social media, where she shares her thoughts, memes and comments on the latest trends. Most of
her posts are positive and fun, but sometimes, she has joined in on debates or made sarcastic jokes
that could be seen as rude or offensive.
Even though Sakshi didn’t mean to upset anyone, some of her comments were made without thinking
about how they might be understood by others. As Sakshi gets ready to apply to universities, she finds
out that some of them look at what applicants post online. This makes her worry—could her past posts
be seen the wrong way? She’s afraid that something from her online history might ruin her chances of
getting a scholarship.
This situation shows how important it is to think carefully about what we post online. Even if we share
things in good fun, they can still have long-term effects. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on what we put
on the internet, especially when it comes to big future opportunities like applying for schools or jobs.
Based on the above case, answer the following questions:
1. What does Sakshi’s situation teach us about the importance of online behaviour?
2. Why is it important to think carefully before posting something online?
In today’s digital world, technology plays a significant role in our daily lives.
Ethics refers to a set of moral principles that guide a person's behaviour, determining what is
right or wrong, good or bad.
The Internet can be a great resource, but it also comes with certain risks.
Intellectual property refers to the creations that arise from human intelligence.
Privacy means keeping your personal information secure and only sharing it with people you
trust.
A digital footprint is the information trail that individuals create through their online activities.
Good digital behaviour is all about using the Internet and technology in a respectful, responsible
and safe way.
