Websites: Online platforms generate data, such as the number of
people visiting a website or how many times a link is clicked.
Surveys: Data can also be collected by asking people questions
directly. For example, you could ask your classmates about their
favourite food or activity.

UNDERSTANDING DIGITAL DATA
Digital data refers to information stored in a form that computers can read and process. This
data can include numbers, words, images, sounds and more. The important thing is that it’s in a
format that can be handled by devices like computers, smartphones and tablets.
Digital data is everywhere. It helps us do many things, like looking up information on the internet,
playing games or tracking the number of steps you take with a fitness band. Computers use this
data to make decisions, analyse patterns and store information for later use.
Here are some examples of digital data:
Text on a website: When you visit a website, the text you see is digital data. Computers store
and process this text so you can read it. For example, when you search for a book online, the
data about the book (its name, author, price and reviews) is displayed on the screen because
it’s stored in a digital format.
Photos and videos: When you take a photo with your phone, it’s saved as digital data. This
data is made up of tiny pieces called pixels, which form the image. Similarly, when you watch
a video, the video file is digital data that your phone or computer can process and display on
the screen.
