Artificial Intelligence (AI) is used in many areas of life. It helps with things like navigation apps,
predicting the weather and even diagnosing diseases. But here's an important question: just
because AI can make decisions, should it make all the decisions?

Technology is powerful, but when AI is used to make decisions in important areas like hiring people
for jobs, healthcare, banking, education or security, it needs to be guided by rules to make sure
it’s fair and safe. AI isn’t just a machine; it’s part of a system that can affect people's lives. That’s
why it must follow rules to make sure it works responsibly.

                  UNDERSTANDING ETHICS IN AI

Ethics refers to the rules or guidelines that help us make decisions that are right, fair and
responsible. Ethics helps you make good choices in your everyday life. When it comes to AI
(Artificial Intelligence), AI ethics is about ensuring that AI systems are designed and used in ways
that benefit people and society without causing harm. It makes sure AI works in a way that is:

œ œFair: This means treating everyone equally, without
any bias or discrimination. For example, imagine an AI
system in school that picks students for a scholarship.
If the AI is trained using data that favours one gender
or race, it would be unfair. Ethical AI ensures that the
system chooses students based on their abilities, not
                     their gender or background.

œ œTransparent: AI should make decisions in ways that
are clear and easy to understand. Think about an
AI system in an online shopping app that recommends products. If you know why the app
suggests certain items (like because you liked similar products before), it builds trust. Ethical
AI ensures that the decisions made by the system are easy to follow.
