IMPORTANCE OF ETHICAL USE OF AI
AI is part of your daily life, from helping with directions to recommending movies. But as AI makes
more decisions, it must be used ethically, fairly, safely and responsibly. Let us understand why it
is important to use the AI ethically:
Prevent discrimination: AI can be unfair if it’s trained on biased data. For
example, if AI picks students for a scholarship but favours one gender over the
other, that’s unfair. Ethical AI makes sure everyone has an equal chance.
Build trust: AI needs to be clear about how it works. For example, if a music
app explains why it recommends a song based on your past listens, you’ll trust
it more. Ethical AI ensures transparency, so people trust the system.
Ensure responsibility: If AI makes a mistake, the people who created it must take
responsibility. For example, if a bank’s AI wrongly denies a loan, the bank must
fix the mistake. Ethical AI makes sure humans are accountable for AI’s decisions.
Protect Privacy
AI systems handle lots of personal information like names, addresses and phone numbers. Ethical
AI makes sure this information is protected and used responsibly. Laws are in place to ensure
AI doesn’t misuse personal data. For example, if you use a gaming app on your phone, the app
might collect your data. Ethical AI makes sure your data is safe and only used to improve your
gaming experience and not for anything else.
Legal Compliance
Ethical AI also means following the law. In India, laws like the Digital Personal Data Protection Act,
2023 set rules on how personal data can be used. These rules make sure you have the right to:
See what data companies have about you.
Correct any mistakes in your data.
Ask for your data to be deleted.
For example, when you sign up for an online game, the company must ask for your permission to
use your data. If the company misuses your information, they can face consequences. Ethical AI
makes sure companies follow the rules and respect your privacy.
