ROLE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Artificial Intelligence systems are designed to mimic human cognitive processes. Just as humans
observe, learn and make decisions, AI systems follow similar steps using data and algorithms.
These systems continuously improve by analysing new data and refining their performance.
AI systems are capable of performing the following functions:
Analyse data: Humans gather and interpret information to gain knowledge. Similarly, AI
systems analyse large amounts of data to understand patterns and draw conclusions. AI can
process massive datasets quickly and efficiently, far beyond human capability. This ability
makes AI useful in fields like business, healthcare and finance.
Recognise patterns: AI identifies patterns and relationships within data. For example, it can
detect trends, similarities or repeated behaviours by learning from multiple examples. Pattern
recognition helps AI systems identify faces, detect fraud and recommend products.
Learn from experience: AI improves over time by learning from new data. The more data it
receives, the better it becomes at performing tasks, similar to how humans improve through
practice. This learning process is known as machine learning.
Make predictions and decisions: Based on learned patterns, AI can predict future outcomes
or make decisions. These predictions are often based on probabilities and past data. This
makes AI valuable for planning and decision-making.
Understand language: AI systems can understand and process human language through
Natural Language Processing (NLP). This allows machines to read text, interpret meaning
and respond to users. Language understanding is used in chatbots, voice assistants and
translation systems.
Recognise images and objects: AI systems can identify objects, faces and scenes in images
and videos. This capability is used in facial recognition, medical imaging and security systems.
It also supports technologies such as self-driving cars and surveillance systems.
Automate tasks: AI can automate repetitive and time-consuming tasks. This increases
productivity and reduces human effort. Automation through AI is commonly used in
manufacturing, customer support and data processing.
Adapt to new situations: AI systems can adjust their behaviour based on new inputs and
environments. This adaptability allows AI to perform well in dynamic situations.
AI AT WORK: IT'S ALL AROUND US
Artificial Intelligence is already part of our everyday lives. Many technologies we use daily rely on
AI to function effectively. AI is used in various industries, fields or areas to improve efficiency, solve
problems or automate tasks.
