AI ETHICS
Whenever a new technology is introduced, people are usually
excited to know what it can do. They ask questions such as: How
ETHICS AND fast is it? How accurate is it? How useful is it? These questions
RESPONSIBLE AI help us understand the capabilities of technology. However,
there is another equally important question that we must ask:
What should this technology do? This question leads us into the
world of ethics.
Ethics refers to the values, principles and guidelines that help us decide what is right and what is
wrong. When we apply these ideas to Artificial Intelligence, we call it AI Ethics. AI Ethics focuses
on ensuring that artificial intelligence systems are designed, developed and used in a responsible
and fair manner. It reminds us that technology should always benefit people and society, rather
than causing harm or creating unfair advantages.
As Artificial Intelligence becomes a part of everyday life, it influences decisions in areas such as
education, healthcare, banking, transportation and even social media. Because AI systems can
affect many people, it is important to make sure they follow ethical principles. AI ethics helps
guide developers and users to create systems that are safe, reliable and beneficial for everyone.
AI ethics ensures that AI systems:
Are fair and do not discriminate against individuals or groups
Respect privacy and protect personal information
Help society and contribute positively to human well-being
Remain accountable, meaning someone is responsible for their actions and decisions
Let us consider an example from healthcare. Imagine an AI system that helps doctors diagnose
diseases. This system should treat all patients equally, regardless of their background, gender, age
or economic status. It should also keep patient data confidential and provide accurate suggestions
that support doctors in making better decisions. If the system is biased or careless, it may lead to
incorrect treatment, which can be harmful. Therefore, ethical guidelines are necessary to ensure
that such systems are safe and trustworthy.
Ethical AI is not just about making systems smart, fast or efficient. It is also about making sure that
these systems are responsible, transparent and trustworthy. A truly successful AI system is one
that benefits everyone while avoiding harm.
Some key aspects of AI ethics are as follows:
