Artboard: It is the canvas where designs are created. Illustrator allows working with multiple
artboards in a single document.
Switch Workspace: It is located in the Application Bar; it allows users to switch between
predefined workspaces or create a custom workspace.
CREATING A NEW DOCUMENT
To start a new project in Adobe Illustrator, follow these steps:
Step 1 Open Adobe Illustrator and click on File > New or use the shortcut Ctrl + N.
The New Document window will appear.
Step 2 Specify various parameters for your document in the New Document window.
• Name: Give your document a name for easy identification.
• Preset Options: Choose from different templates such as Print, Web, Mobile
or Custom.
• Artboard Size: Define the dimensions of your document.
• Units: Select from pixels, inches, points or centimetres.
• Orientation: Set the layout to portrait or landscape.
• Bleed: Allows artwork to extend beyond the trim edge, useful for printing.
• Colour Mode:
RGB: Best for digital graphics.
CMYK: Used for print designs.
Step 3 Click on the Create button.
