Workspace: The Workspace is the area where the circuit is built. You can place, connect and
arrange components to design your circuit.
RAPID RECALL Tick ( ) if you know this.
1. A circuit is a pathway for electricity to flow.
2. Circuits are used in electronic devices, robots and machines to make them work.
BASIC CIRCUIT SIMULATIONS
In Tinkercad, a simulation is the process of testing and visualising how a circuit works in a virtual
environment. Instead of using real-world components, you can design your circuit and see how it
behaves on your computer screen.
TURNING ON AN LED USING A BREADBOARD
To build a circuit that turns on an LED using a breadboard, you will need the following components:
Component Image Explanation
LED The LED (Light Emitting Diode) converts electrical energy
into light. It has a longer leg (anode, +) for positive
voltage and a shorter leg (cathode, -) for negative.
Resistor A resistor controls the flow of electricity to prevent
damage to circuit components. It is used to adjust light
brightness or motor speed.
Battery A battery stores and releases energy to power a circuit,
converting chemical energy into electrical energy.
Breadboard A breadboard is used for building and testing circuits
without soldering, allowing easy placement and changes
of components.
Jumper Wires Jumper wires connect circuit parts, allowing electricity
to flow between components. They are colour-coded,
with red for positive and black for negative.
