Privacy Settings
Privacy means keeping your information safe and
hidden. Use strong passwords, do not share your details
with strangers and only use apps or websites that your
parents or teachers approve.
Most games, social media and chat apps have privacy
settings. These are like the locks and walls you build
around your information.
Always check with a parent or teacher to make sure your settings are:
Private/friends only: This setting means only people you
know and trust (friends you have accepted) can see your
posts and profile. Avoid the Public setting, which lets
strangers also see everything.
Location off: Many apps, like games, ask to know where you are
(your location). Turn this OFF unless you absolutely need it. You do
not want strangers to know when you are at home or at school.
Comments filtered: Some platforms let you filter or block
unkind comments. Using this feature helps you focus only on
the positive parts of being online.
“Privacy settings are like the locks on your digital doors keep
them closed to strangers and open only for trusted friends.”
In 2024, a report found that over 300 children lost their gaming accounts after online
games tricked them with “free rewards” and “rare items,” leading them to share personal
login details with hackers.
