Verifying Authenticity
To ensure an email, link or website is genuine, follow these guidelines:
Visit the official website of the company directly rather than clicking on links in
the email.
Contact the company or person via phone or their official website to confirm
any suspicious requests.
If something feels off about an email, like an unfamiliar sender or an unusual
request, avoid responding. It's better to be cautious.
ACTIONS TO TAKE IF PHISHED
If you’ve fallen victim to a phishing attack, it’s important to act quickly to limit any
damage and protect your information. Taking prompt action can help recover your
accounts and prevent further harm.
Steps to Take If You’ve Been Phished
If you suspect you’ve been phished, follow these immediate steps:
Change passwords immediately: Update passwords for the affected accounts
and ensure they are strong and unique.
Secure other accounts: If you use the same password
for other accounts, change those too to prevent further
compromises.
Check bank and credit card statements: Look for any
suspicious transactions and report them to your bank
or financial institution.
Run a security scan: Use antivirus software to check for any malware that may
have been installed during the phishing attack.
Disconnect from the Internet: Temporarily disconnect your device from the
Internet to stop any ongoing attacks or data transmission.
Reporting Phishing Incidents
It’s important to report phishing attacks to help prevent others from falling victim:
Inform your bank, email provider or other service providers about the phishing
incident so they can take action.
