The Role of Passwords in Digital Security
A password is a secret code made of letters, numbers or symbols that only you
(and your parents) should know. It helps you lock your digital door so no one can
misuse your accounts or data. Passwords are used everywhere, such as to unlock a
phone, check email, play games or join online classrooms.
Some reasons why passwords are important for digital security are:
Protection of personal information: Passwords keep private data such as
messages, photos and account details safe from others.
Access control: A password acts as a lock that
stops strangers from entering your accounts or
devices.
Defence against hackers: Strong passwords
make it harder for hackers to guess or break into
your accounts.
Security for online activities: Passwords protect
online banking, shopping and communication
services from misuse.
Prevention of identity misuse: A secure
password helps stop others from pretending to
be you online.
Protection of linked devices: A strong password prevents unauthorised access
to devices connected through apps or cloud services.
Maintaining privacy in shared spaces: Passwords keep accounts safe when
using shared or public devices.
