Dealing with Strangers: The Traffic Light Rule
When using the Internet, you may come across people you do not know. Some might seem friendly,
but others may try to harm, trick or bully you. If anything online makes you feel scared, confused
or uncomfortable, follow the Traffic Light Rule to stay safe:
Light Action What it means
Stop immediately. Do not click, do not reply and do not share
RED STOP
any more information.
Think carefully. Why does the message or request feel
YELLOW THINK strange? Does this person know your family? Are they offering
something that sounds too good to be true?
Tell a trusted adult such as a parent or teacher right away
GREEN TELL ✅
and show them what happened.
