Based on the above case, answer the following questions:
1. What was the first mistake Prateek made when choosing a Wi-Fi network?
2. Which private information did Prateek share without thinking?
3. What should Prateek have done before connecting to any Wi-Fi?
THE CONNECTION MANAGER – THE ROUTER
A router is a device that helps digital devices connect to the Internet. It works
like a manager that guides information to the right place. When you use
Wi-Fi at home or in school, the router sends the Internet signal to your phone,
computer, smart TV and other devices. It also helps keep the network safe by
allowing only trusted devices to connect. Without a router, your devices would
not be able to share the Internet properly.

1. Digital devices also connect to networks, which helps them share information quickly.
2. Digital devices and technologies have transformed almost every aspect of modern life.
3. A Local Area Network (LAN) connects devices within a small area.
NETWORK SAFETY
Many times, you visit public places like cinema halls, malls and airports where free Internet is
available. Not all networks are safe, so it is important to stay alert while connecting to Wi-Fi.
Private Wi-Fi
Private Wi-Fi is like having a locked gate around your house. It is safe and protected. You usually
find this type of network at home, at a friend’s house or in your school computer lab. A private
network needs a password to connect and the router has a firewall that works like a digital security
guard. Only people who know the password can use the network. Because it is protected, private
Wi-Fi is safer for important online work such as homework, checking personal emails or making
online payments.
