FIREWALL
A firewall is like a security guard for your computer or phone. It helps protect your device from
harmful things, like viruses or hackers, that try to get into your system without permission. Just
like a guard would stop strangers from entering a building, a firewall stops unwanted Internet
traffic from entering your device.
A firewall acts as a barrier between your device and the Internet. It checks all the data that tries to
enter your computer or phone and decides whether it is safe or not. If something looks suspicious
or dangerous, the firewall blocks it from getting through.
For example: Imagine you are using your laptop to play an online game. While you’re playing,
a pop-up window appears, asking you to click on a link to "download a free prize." You’re not
sure if it’s safe, so you don’t click it. At the same time, your firewall notices that the link could be
dangerous and blocks it, stopping harmful data from entering your device. Because of the firewall,
your laptop remains safe and you can continue playing without worrying about your information
being stolen.
KEEPING YOUR DEVICES SECURE
Your digital secrets are not just in your accounts; they are also on the devices you use. Think of
your phone, tablet or laptop as a safe deposit box. Even if your passwords are strong, anyone can
access your information if the safe itself is left open. Let’s learn how to protect your devices and
keep your information safe.
Ways to Secure Your Device
Here are some ways to secure your device:
Lock your screen: Always lock your screen when you step away from your phone, tablet or
computer, even if it’s just for a minute. This simple step stops others from quickly peeking at
your apps or messages. On Windows, press the Windows key + L to lock your screen.
