INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL RESPECT
Respect is not only important in our face-to-face interactions but also plays a major role in how
we behave online. As our world becomes more digital, the way we treat others on the Internet
matters just as much as how we treat them in real life. This leads us to the idea of Digital Respect,
which focuses on being responsible, kind and thoughtful when using technology.
Digital respect is the practice of treating others online with the same kindness, courtesy and
consideration that we show in real life. It means valuing other people’s opinions, being polite in
messages or posts, protecting privacy and avoiding harmful behaviour. It helps create a safe,
positive and friendly online environment for everyone.
Importance of Digital Respect
The Internet connects millions of people. Because we cannot see each other’s faces or hear each
other’s voices, it is easy for messages to be misunderstood. You can show digital respect by
following simple actions:
Think before you post: Check if your message or photo is kind,
necessary and safe to share.
Use polite and clear language: Be mindful of your tone, as messages
without facial expressions can sound rude.
Respect other people's privacy: Ask before sharing someone’s
picture, message or personal details.
Be honest and responsible: Don’t spread rumours, fake news or
misleading information.
