THE GROUP PROJECT CHAT
Maya was excited about a new school group project and joined an online chat with her classmates
to discuss ideas. Everyone was polite at first, sharing their suggestions and dividing tasks. Maya
noticed one classmate writing rude comments and teasing others about their ideas. At first, she
ignored it, but then the teasing got worse and made some of her friends feel upset.

Maya remembered what her teacher had said about digital respect treating others online as you
would in person and being kind, polite and helpful. She decided to politely ask the classmate to stop
and reminded everyone to focus on the project. She also reported the messages to her teacher to
make sure everyone felt safe in the chat.
Through this experience, Maya learned how important it is to follow netiquette rules, like being
respectful, positive and responsible online. She realised that online spaces should be safe and
friendly for everyone, just like a classroom.
