Understanding the Risks of Exposing PII Online
Exposing your Personally Identifiable Information (PII) online can lead to serious risks, including:
Impersonation: Cybercriminals can pretend to be you to access bank accounts or even open
new ones in your name.
Targeted phishing attacks: With your personal details, like your school or hobbies, attackers
can create very specific phishing attacks to trick you into sharing more sensitive information.
Identity theft: If someone steals your identity, it can lead to serious legal and financial problems
for you and your family.
In India, the Aadhaar number is a highly sensitive piece of PII. If your Aadhaar details are leaked
online, you could be at risk of identity theft and fraud. That’s why it’s important never to share
your full Aadhaar number or a copy of your card on unknown websites or with unverified people.
