                 RESPECTING DIGITAL PROPERTY

Tools like firewalls and antivirus software help protect devices from online threats. However, digital

safety is not only about stopping hackers or protecting personal data. It also includes behaving
                 responsibly in the digital world.
Being a good digital citizen means respecting the work created by others. Just as your own data

and identity deserve protection, digital creations such as music, videos, images, games, software
and written content also need to be protected. This is done by following copyright rules and
avoiding plagiarism. Let us learn about copyright and plagiarism.

                 Copyright

Copyright is a legal protection given to people who create original work.
When someone writes a book, composes a song, takes a photograph or
designs software, the law gives them the right to decide how their work
is used. Others cannot copy, share or sell that work without permission.

In India original creations are protected under the Copyright Act, 1957.
This law applies to books, music, videos, images, software and online
content. Copyright helps protect creativity, ensures fair use and gives
creators the credit they deserve for their work.

                 Plagiarism

Plagiarism happens when you use someone else’s words,

ideas or images and present them as your own without giving
credit. For example, copying content from a website for a school Always use legal
project without mentioning the source is plagiarism. To avoid streaming services
this, always use your own words and ideas. or buy content from
                                                                                             authorised sources.
If you need to use information from a book, website or person,
make sure to mention the source. This is called citing the source.
