UNDERSTANDING THE ROLES IN BULLYING
Although bullying is clearly wrong, knowing how to respond when you witness it can be difficult.
You may fear becoming a target yourself, especially if the bully has a group of friends who might
turn against you. When bullying or other mean behaviour takes place, there are typically four
types of people involved:
The Aggressor: The person or group doing the bullying.
The Victim: The person being bullied.
The Bystanders: People who see what’s happening but don’t always intervene.
The Upstanders: Those who witness the bullying and choose to step in and help in a positive way.
Understanding these roles can guide you in knowing how to respond when you encounter bullying.
