India has specific laws and systems to protect children and young people from online threats,
including cyberbullying. Knowing these helps you understand that cybercrimes are taken seriously
and there are official ways to report them.

The Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000 is the primary law governing cybercrimes and
electronic commerce in India. It addresses various cyber-related issues, including:
Cybercrimes such as sending offensive, abusive or threatening messages online.
Cybersecurity violations including hacking, identity theft and the misuse of personal data.
Those found guilty of violating the provisions of the IT Act can face fines and/or imprisonment,
depending on the severity of the offence.
The Act is designed to protect individuals and organisations from cybercrimes and to regulate
electronic transactions and data security.
POCSO Act, 2012
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 is a strong law that protects
children under 18 years of age from sexual abuse and exploitation.
