24-HOUR DETOX CHALLENGE Century #Initiative
Skills
Pick a day to take a 24-hour detox challenge. Stay off social media for 24 hours and use that time for
offline activities like sports, reading or spending time with family. Afterward, reflect on how you felt
and write a report sharing your experience.
THE GOLDEN RULES OF SOCIAL MEDIA
The golden rules of social focusses on authenticity, respect and providing value. The main principle
is to treat others as you would like to be treated, both online and offline.
Some of the key golden rules for general social media use are as follows:
Pause before you post: Content on the Internet is often permanent, so it’s important to
think carefully before posting. Think of it like “measure twice, cut once.” Before you hit share,
ask yourself some questions like Is it true? Is it helpful? What impact could it have? Taking a
moment to reflect on these questions can help you avoid misunderstandings and ensure that
what you’re sharing is useful, meaningful and respectful.
Respect is non negotiable: Respect is the foundation of healthy conversations. Whether you’re
discussing a serious issue or commenting on a meme, always keep your tone respectful and
considerate.
Protect your privacy: Be mindful of what you share online. Personal details, locations and
sensitive information can be misused. Such information can be exploited for identity theft,
fraud or harassment and can even be used to manipulate or scam you. Only share what you
feel comfortable with others knowing.
Choose kindness: Social media amplifies emotions. Positive comments and kindness can
have a huge impact, while negativity spreads much faster. Choose kindness over conflict and
stay constructive in your interactions.
Use hashtags wisely: Hashtags help you reach the right audience, but overusing them can
make your posts look spammy. Use them thoughtfully and ensure they’re relevant to your
content.
Know the algorithm: Algorithms shape what you see and how others see you. Be aware of
how social media algorithms influence your behaviour and try not to get caught up in endless
scrolling or chasing likes.
