In 2024, India recorded over 80 million phishing attempts, making it one of the most targeted
countries in the world. This is why you must stay alert before clicking any link or opening an
attachment.
Spam
Spam refers to unwanted bulk emails that are sent in large numbers to many people at once.
These emails often contain annoying advertisements or links that may lead to scams or harmful
websites. They may also have spelling mistakes or look unprofessional. The safest action is to
delete spam emails immediately and not click on any links inside them. Spam can fill your inbox
and make it harder to find important messages. Some spam emails may even pretend to offer
free gifts or prizes to catch your attention. Always avoid opening anything you did not expect.
Suspicious Attachments
Suspicious attachments are files such
as PDFs or ZIP files sent in emails from
unknown senders. Opening these files
can install harmful software, known as
malware, on your phone or computer. This
malware can steal your data, damage your
device or even lock you out of it. To stay safe,
never open attachments from strangers.
Some attachments look harmless, but even
a simple document can hide dangerous
software. Always check the sender and ask
an adult if you feel unsure. When in doubt,
delete it.
