Data refers to any personal, sensitive, or confidential information stored digitally, such as PII,
financial, or health data. Data protection involves safeguarding this information from theft,
unauthorised access, corruption, and misuse through methods like encryption, backups, antivirus
software and strong passwords.

Meet Aryan, a class 7 student studying in a school in Pune. He worked hard for a month
on a fantastic digital presentation on Indian history for a school competition. However, he
only saved the finished product on his family’s desktop PC. One evening, while searching
for additional images online, Aryan unintentionally clicked on a link that downloaded
a computer virus. At first, nothing seemed wrong. But the next afternoon, when Aryan
opened his computer, he discovered that a large number of files, including his history
