Many digital platforms offer this feature to protect sensitive information. For example, Gmail
and Instagram provide options in their settings to activate 2FA.
Backup your data: A backup is a separate copy
of important photos, documents, and files stored
on an external drive or a cloud service. Regular
backups protect valuable information in
situations such as ransomware attacks or
sudden device failure. This practice ensures that
important work remains safe even if the main
device becomes damaged or inaccessible. Cloud
storage and physical storage devices offer
reliable ways to preserve essential data. For
example, school projects can be saved on a USB
drive as well as on a laptop for added safety.
Be alert to social engineering: Strangers
requesting urgent help, money, or sensitive
information must not be trusted without
verification. It is important to confirm identities
by contacting the real person or organisation
directly. Social engineering attacks rely on
creating panic or pressure to trick people
into sharing information. Careful verification
prevents falling victim to such schemes.
For example, if someone claims to be a cousin
on WhatsApp and asks for `500, first confirm
by calling the cousin before taking any action.
