Proximity: Proximity refers to how close or far apart the parts in a layout are. Proximity can assist
consumers in connecting different visual parts of a project.

Here are some pointers to
consider if you’re starting your
own layout design project:
¾ Use templates to help you.
¾ Make a visual contrast.
¾ Experiment with typography (font
style, appearance, and structure).
¾ Use whitespace.
¾ Play around with the rules.
Next, we consider the hierarchy of information. Hierarchy in design is crucial for organising and conveying
information clearly. When elements are arranged in a hierarchy, they are ordered based on their importance.
Usually, the largest or most prominent element is the most important and communicates the key message to
the audience. Smaller elements follow in order of importance, supporting the main message and highlighting
secondary points. This arrangement helps guide the viewer’s attention, showing them what to notice first as
they move through the design.
Designers often use contrast to strengthen this hierarchy. By varying elements like colour, font, texture, or
spacing, they can create different levels of importance, making it clear which parts of the design should
stand out first and which should be noticed later. These thoughtful design choices not only make the layout
visually appealing but also make the communication clearer and more effective. Here are some factors that
affect design hierarchy:
